Capuchins, Coatis and Agoutis in the Courtyard (By Dad)

So our kids have gotten spoiled and they refuse to write any more posts. As parents of humans my generation would say: "Kids these days!"

So I'm writing posts that they had promised to write five days ago...

Context: We stayed at an awesome boutique hotel in Monteverde (Cloud forest hotel) and the local caretakers had none of the scruples of more-mainstream hotel owners regarding the feeding of wild animals. As a result, we were able to see a boatload of regularly obscure animals in their open courtyard as they regularly offered the local animals treats in order to delight their guests.

Most specifically, they feed a capuchin monkey troop in the evening, giving guest the opportunity to throw pieces of banana to the Alpha Monkey "Roberto" and they offer bananas and pineapples to a local coati ("Rolanda") and an adorable agouti mamma ("Jennifer"). Her name is Jennifer because she has a large backside, like Jennifer Lopez....

We were able to get up-close with these less-commonly seen animals because the hotel proprietors didn't feel like paying attention to the typical "Don't Feed The Wildlife" mantra. As a result, the coati was happy to walk into the morning breakfast dining area and the capuchin monkeys would commonly pound on closed windows and jiggle door handles in the hope of gaining access to hotel guests' cottages. The monkeys themselves were adorable, but that part was less-awesome.

The picture below if of a capuchin monkey turning over a leaf to find a bee hive underneath. (We saw similar hives on our night walk adventure). The monkey was not worried about the bees and he/she proceeded to devour the nest on the branch above over the next several minutes.

The images below show the Capuchin Monkeys climbing down the roof and trying the guest room door at the top of the stairs. It was locked, but I suspect that the moneys have been successful on other occasions. For our own rooms, we made sure to lock all the rooms and windows when we were out for the day.

Here is an aggressive capuchin after pounding on our room in search of food.

White-Faced Coati:

Some random black bird. I could look it up myself, but that's too much work

The images below are of the view from our Cloud Forest room(s) in Monteverde. Lush, Green and Luxurious.
